Recent Viewing

We are oh so slowly catching up on Doctor Who. I've now seen "The Girl in the Fireplace", which won the Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form. It is very good, but I prefer "School Reunion" as an overall representation of what makes the show what it is. Of course, I'm also one of the philistines who thinks Whedon was just plain wrong and "The Train Job" a much better pilot episode for Firefly than "Serenity" -- although I do think it was the height of idiocy airing "Serenity" last. Overall, for a Hugo for Firefly, I'd vote for "Out of Gas".

Meanwhile, agrumer occasionally tries to do something about my cultural deprivation, so he loaned us the first season of Futurama. Wow. It is brilliant. Shortly into the first episode, mneme said, with delight, "Ethical decisions!" During the second episode, he wondered what the heck the lunar lander was doing on the moon in the year 3,000. Sometime later, I spotted a plaque on the lander, and it actually explained that.

crash_mccormick loaned us Blade 3, which, to his and mnemex's surprise, I liked better than Blade, which I thought moved way too slowly and made less sense. I've not seen the second movie, though both of them have.

We still haven't seen any of the new Battlestar Galactica. I don't mean any of the current season; I mean any of the show.
