I taught at Borough of Manhattan Community College, and after that, at Bronx Community College. In both places, the full time faculty were supportive of the adjunct faculty. Particularly at Bronx, I felt they had my back. This meant a great deal.
Financially, though, the way I made ends meet was living at my parents' home for most of my time as an adjunct, and knowing I could draw on their resources after I left home. I shake with anger when I read about how teachers should be prepared to go above and beyond the call of duty for no extra pay, and how it is horrible when they presume to want to be paid a fair wage for their services.
